About CBB Sim
What is this?
CBB Sim allows you to randomly play out the results for the rest of the 2023-24 NCAA men's college basketball regular season and conference tournaments. You can also see the probability of seeding and tournament results based on the outcomes of 10,000 sims. Select any conference to get started.
How are the win probabilities calculated?
They're based on the KenPom Ratings. The particular formulas used are from this 6 year old thread on /r/CollegeBasketball.
The goal here is to have some fun data visualization with a decent enough estimate of win probabilities, not to build a predictive model. Injuries are not taken into consideration. Past games are based on the expected probability if the game was played now, not the date when they were actually played. Conference tourney brackets and formats are based on info from Hoops HD.
What about tiebreakers?
These probabilites don't claim to know every conference tiebreaker rule. They assume that all ties are broken by head-to-head record among the tied teams. Any ties deeper than that are randomly decided by each sim.
How often will this be updated?
At least once a day. Probably more often on Saturdays. Follow CBB Sim on Twitter for updates.
Will new features be added?
Yes, a sim for the NCAA tournament where the bracket is based off simmed regular season and conference tourney results will soon be available.
